A big thank you to Sam Morales of Drew Estate (you may know him as @drewestatedata on social media) for sending me this event exclusive Kentucky Fire Cured Yard Bird. It made its first appearance at the second annual Kentucky Barn Smoker in the Hopkinsville, KY on October 3rd. It then made its first appearance in my ashtray for this first impressions review a few days later on October 6th.

For the official scoop on the cigar, I turn it over to the Drew Estate press release:

Miami, FL – Drew Estate announces today the release of a new size of their popular Kentucky Fire Cured blend, called “Yard Bird”. The new size will be available exclusively at Drew Estate events, and will be making its first appearance at the second annual Kentucky Barn Smoker, taking place on October 3rd in the Hopkinsville, KY. Attendees of the sold-out event will be the first to smoke the new size, which will make follow-up appearances at upcoming Kentucky Fire Cured-specific Drew Estate events across the United States.

The new “Yard Bird” size is presented in a 5” x 50 torpedo vitola, and is based upon the original Kentucky Fire Cured blend. The blend features Kentucky seed tobacco, grown and fire cured in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, along with Nicaraguan and Brazilian fillers. The cigar is wrapped with a Mexican San Andres wrapper to round out the blend profile.

When asked about the new “Yard Bird” size, Jonathan Drew commented from New York City: “The Drew Estate team is ultra passionate about Fire Cured tobaccos. We’ve played a major role in creating and expanding this new segment of Fire Cured cigars, and the annual Kentucky Barn Smoker is our celebration of Fire Cured tobaccos. Held in the epicenter of Fire Cured tobacco production in the United States, Hopkinsville, Kentucky, this event is unlike any other, taking the consumer into the fire-curing barns. If you slept on this year’s KFCBS event, don’t miss it next year. It’s a MAJOR game changer! The new ‘Yard Bird’ size is our commemorative size for this event, and we will be bringing it out at more DE events soon.”

To celebrate the launch of the new Kentucky Fire Cured “Yard Bird”, Drew Estate is giving away five of the sought-after cigar packs from the 2015 Kentucky Barn Smoker. Enter now at http://drewestate.com/barnsmoker for a chance to win a few Yard Birds of your own.

As I explain in the video, this isn’t my first experience with a Kentucky Fire Cured cigar, but it is my first in this size. And to be fair, it has been a while since I had one in any size. This review runs a little over 7 minutes and features a impromptu drink pairing midway. Enjoy!
