Padilla Dominus Robusto First Impression

This week I’m doing things a little differently. And by that I mean I’m going with video instead of my customary written review and Tower of Burn. If you’re tired of seeing me on video, or just love the Tower of Burn, have no fear, I plan to return to that next week.

This week’s departure is out of necessity. I shipped the samples I picked up at IPCPR (along with swag and miscellaneous tourist trinkets) to myself instead of trying to fit it all in my luggage. While that made the trip back easier, unfortunately it also means that the cigars I had planned to review this week are still in transit, leaving me the few I put in my cigar caddy when packing up to leave.

One of those cigars is one I’ve been looking forward to trying every since Ernesto Padilla started showing off teaser images on twitter: the new Padilla Dominus. You’ll note I’m calling this video a “first impression”. The reason for that is that it the one and only Dominus sample I have. To truly give a cigar a fair review, I smoke several and compile the results. But I couldn’t resist lighting up one of the sticks introduced at the show.

Just for fun, I also included a some video I recorded in November of last year when I dropped by Padilla’s new factory in Miami. I was still getting the hang of the flipcam, but the clip should give you an idea of what his new place looks like. Enjoy!

  1. I enjoy your videos more than your written reviews. I tend to go down to the final impressions part of your essays. I find reading reviews tedious. Just me.

  2. Great video! Sounds like a nice smoke. I cant wait till you guys get all your show cigars! Fed-Ex seems SLOW!!

Nice shaving in between segments too 🙂

    Mike

What is the picture on your door? Looks like you with a thumbs up about something?

  3. I like Drakkar, but yeah i wouldn’t want to smoke it. Good review, but Brian…
the Tower of Burn is my favorite part about your reviews! I like seeing the video but you should still include the TOB. I’m also curious about the picture on your door, you look really excited. ha ha Also enjoyed the music between segments, what is that?

  4. Ok, I am not one to make hollow threats but if I don’t see a Brian Hewitt video review on here every week from now on I will have to consider spending my time at a different site…Something real classy like the hotcigarsmoking chick or whatever she’s called.

  5. Great review Brian! Hate to be a wet blanket, but, like most people, your writing is better than your speaking . . and I miss the “Tower Of Burn.”

BTW, was that Desi Arnaz singing at the beginning?

  6. Thanks for the comments guys.

Have no fear TOB fans, it will return next week.

    Mike (KnightRid),
Yeah, FedEx is considerably slower than promised. I just checked, my stuff should be delivered today. Finally.

    Jeff,
The picture on the door is a cheesy picture I took/edited in response to my likeness being featured in some Tom & Ed video reviews. It says “Stogie Review Rocks!”

    A well aged Cuban,
I’m sure she’ll enjoy the patronage. I’m just disappointed she chose to scrap the video clip she took of the two of us together. LOL Jerry and I are planning more “Herfing Heads” videos, so you’ll be able to get your fill of my fat face!

    f-stop,
I agree with you. I fell back out of my interviewer/camera groove. (Not that I was astounding in any of those either, but I was better.)

The song is “Me Conoces Bien” and was performed by Beny More.

  7. Drakar…dude, really? 🙂 I didn’t know they made that stuff anymore.

Man I need to drive up to Miami and meet Ernesto.

Nice to see your mug again, thnx for breaking this smoke to me, never heard about it till now.

  8. This is a great Vid. I thourghly enjoyed watching it. The tower of burn needs to come back though. I would love to get my hands on one of these personally. I cant wait till your shipment arrives. Hope the time out of a humidor wont damage them on you.

  9. Nice review BH! I’m digging the videos, it saves me from a lot of reading. LOL…yes I’m a lazy, lazy man! 😀

With an all Corojo line-up, I thought that the Dominus would be more of a spice bomb. But, by the sounds of it, the pepper smoothed out after the first third…was there very much in the final third? Spice is a good thing, but complexity is even better, and this stick sounds pretty complex to me!

BTW, the bands on those bad boys are absolutely incredible! Whenever I get a couple I’ll have to get Squiddy to make me a Padilla Dominus Ronson…that would be slick!
