Walt’s Favorite Cigars from 2011

Walt’s Favorite Cigars from 2011

It is that time of year again, where Top 10 Lists are in abundance and manufacturers salivate at the opportunity to Re-Tweet, Share, and +1 all of the praise that their cigars receive. I generally enjoy this time of year and am eager to put a list of my own together. This year, however, I am absolutely dreading it.

In years past I would open up the Cigar Review Index and take in all the cigars we’ve reviewed throughout the …

Contest: Win a Black Label Table Torch

Contest: Win a Black Label Table Torch

A few weeks ago our good friend Steven, from Lighters Direct, asked me to review a lighter, the Black Label El Presidente. Along with that lighter, Steven sent along two others for us to give away.

The first of those lighters is a Black Label “Bombay” Table Torch (Model LBLT100). Entering is very simple, all we ask you to do is “Like” Stogie Review on Facebook. You can do so with the widget down below. If you …

Top 10 Cigars – TGT Edition (2011)

Top 10 Cigars – TGT Edition (2011)

Man where did 2011 go? Seems like the older you get the faster time goes by. Before 2012 gets here its time to look back at 2011. 2011 was another awesome year for cigars! I’m anxious to see what Walt, Brian, Mike and Charlie have listed this year. This year is no different than previous years. I had a difficult time paring the list down to just ten. To help me pare the list down, I limited it to cigars …

An Afternoon with Ernesto Perez Carrillo

An Afternoon with Ernesto Perez Carrillo

When I think back to what I was smoking when I first started enjoying cigars there are a handful of cigars that come to mind. One of them was the El Rico Habano and another was the La Gloria Cubana Serie R. I’m pretty sure at the time, I had no idea who actually made these cigars. Of course now I know that Ernesto Perez Carrillo was the man behind La Gloria Cubana. I didn’t know his family …

An Evening with Benji Menendez

An Evening with Benji Menendez

Last week Benji Menendez was in town visiting both locations of W.Curtis Draper. Since I had to cancel my participation in the blogger trip with General Cigar down to the Dominican Republic I made plans with the folks at General to get time with Benji while he was visiting. I’ll be honest. I wasn’t sure what to say to this icon in the industry. Seriously, I’ve only been smoking since the end of the boom in the late 90′s. …

Delaware Cigar Festival 2011

Delaware Cigar Festival 2011

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Fifth Annual Delaware Cigar Festival. The is organized by Gary Griffith, brand owner of Emilo Cigars, and Premium Cigar Manager of the Delaware Cigars chain of stores (In excess of twenty stores in the state of Delaware).

Tickets went on sale a few months ago and were $125.00 each. With your ticket you gained access into the event, received a large goodie-bag of cigars, were provided with food …

Interview with Steve Ysidron of Savinelli

Interview with Steve Ysidron of Savinelli

When the name Savinelli is mentioned in the smoke shop, the first thing that comes to peoples’ mind is pipes. You can hardly blame them, Savinelli has been making pipes since Achille Savinelli Sr. opened up shop in Milan back in 1876. After a 135 years of doing something, you do build a bit of a reputation for it. But more recently (i.e. since the early 1990′s) Savinelli has also been producing cigars, and not just the one or two …

Women of Cigar Expo 2011 (Cigarnival)

Unless you have been avoiding Stogie Review over the past two weeks, you are well aware that Mike and I attended the Famous Smoke Shop Cigar Expo 2011 (Cigarnval) event. Like any event that we attend with attractive women working, we do our best to bring you photos of the lovely ladies. This time around I handled video content and I sent Mike on a mission to capture photos of the women.

Below is a Flickr Slideshow of the women …

Tour of the New and Improved Famous Smoke Shop

Tour of the New and Improved Famous Smoke Shop

Can you believe there is still video from the Famous Smoke Shop Cigar Expo 2011 (Cigarnival)? For a small two day event with crowds of people, I’m very happy with what we walked away with, in terms of video. In earlier posts, and in replies to comments, I made mention of getting video footage of the new Famous Smoke Shop Store. This is the post where I feature that footage.

All I did was fire up the camera and walk …

  • I'm convinced at this point, the 1878 line from @pdrcigars is the 'Best Bang for your Buck' in the PDR portfolio. Some of his more expensive cigars just arent as good as this budget stick.
  • Smoking my first Flores y Rodriguez. The Flores, Id imagine, refers to Abe Flores of Pinar Del Rio.
  • IMO Enclosed Foot = "Sorry Sir, I couldn't be bothered to trip up that tobacco so I just wadded it up for you."
  • Box looks great, although it could have used more dry-time. Has a mild stain smell about it.
  • Got a @StudioTobac Sampler in the mail. Looks good, eager to smoke through them.
  • @LaAuroraCigars 107 Corona and @CAOCigars OSA cutter, together in harmony.
  • Have a bunch of things to wrap. Having a cigar to keep me company.
  • Nomad Cigars and Yuengling - 1
  • Have a busy morning ahead of me. It is such tough work but someone has to do it.
  • It is a little "Partagas Serie D No. 4" looking but I like the idea if small batch cigars from @pdrcigars
  • Nothing says Good Mornin' like an @EPCarrillo Elencos
  • Figures, 9 out of 10 were awesome and my last one has a lousy burn and produces virtually no smoke on the draw.
  • @jcruz @jonathandrew1 Same here and I guess you could call this Stogie Review Studios (North)
  • EP Carrillo New Wave Corona
  • Drew Estate Undercrown and Spyderco Native 4 - 1
