Expected downtime tonight.

If you have been checking out the site regularly today (10/24/08), you may have noticed some downtime throughout the day. We have contacted our host and they have determined that we need to be migrated to a new machine. As a result, we will be down for 1-2 hours starting at Midnight EST.

Once the migration takes place, we will be back to our normal routine. We have been assured that this will speed up the site and reduce the …

Contest Update

Due to some re-scheduling of Your Questions, My Answers (YQMA) Episode 39, and a Blind Tasting that I had scheduled yesterday, YQMA is running a little late. Due the taping of my tasting and me feeling a little under the weather, I didn’t have the opportunity to sit down and edit the show from start to finish. As a result, you can expect to see the video posted sometime this evening.

In the meantime, this would be great time to …

September Contest Winner

Well folks, it took us longer than we would have expected to select a winner. Brian, Jerry, and I selected our favorites and wouldn’t you know, we had a list of 8 entries that needed to be slimmed down.

We all went back and forth on what context the tagline would be used in. We came down to two entries that we felt comfortable using and it was very difficult to select a winner. When it was all said and …

Stogie Review Update

The purpose of this update is to help keep everyone in the loop as to a recent change on Stogie Review. A few weeks back, Jerry went ahead and started checking out a new video service. The service is called Viddler and is a fairly young.

After playing with it for a bit he decided to switch over and use Viddler as a main service for his videos. I decided to give it a a try as well. and as …

Contest for the month of September 2008

Before I get to telling you about the contest and how to enter, I would like to tell you a little about the person that provided this months contest prize. His name is Tom from Duque Cigar Company in Florida. You may recognize the name as one of or newer sponsors.

The thing that stood out about Tom and his company was his email to me about sponsorship. Unlike some of our other sponsors, who have all been great, Tom …

What goes on during a blind tasting?

Have you ever picked up a copy of a popular cigar magazine and wondered what it would be like to be a fly on the wall at their blind tasting? On many occasions I have read the blind reviews and wondered if they went about the review in the same way that I did.

Do these guys talk to themselves and second guess the flavors they are picking out of the smoke like I do? Does their instinct to reach …

Stogie Photo Streams

  • I'm convinced at this point, the 1878 line from @pdrcigars is the 'Best Bang for your Buck' in the PDR portfolio. Some of his more expensive cigars just arent as good as this budget stick.
  • Smoking my first Flores y Rodriguez. The Flores, Id imagine, refers to Abe Flores of Pinar Del Rio.
  • IMO Enclosed Foot = "Sorry Sir, I couldn't be bothered to trip up that tobacco so I just wadded it up for you."
  • Box looks great, although it could have used more dry-time. Has a mild stain smell about it.
  • Got a @StudioTobac Sampler in the mail. Looks good, eager to smoke through them.
  • @LaAuroraCigars 107 Corona and @CAOCigars OSA cutter, together in harmony.
  • Have a bunch of things to wrap. Having a cigar to keep me company.
  • Nomad Cigars and Yuengling - 1
  • Have a busy morning ahead of me. It is such tough work but someone has to do it.
  • It is a little "Partagas Serie D No. 4" looking but I like the idea if small batch cigars from @pdrcigars
  • Nothing says Good Mornin' like an @EPCarrillo Elencos
  • Figures, 9 out of 10 were awesome and my last one has a lousy burn and produces virtually no smoke on the draw.
  • @jcruz @jonathandrew1 Same here and I guess you could call this Stogie Review Studios (North)
  • EP Carrillo New Wave Corona
  • Drew Estate Undercrown and Spyderco Native 4 - 1
  • Nub Connecticut 358 and Coffee - 1
  • Nub Connecticut 358 - 1
  • Sosa Underground - 1
