Sneak Peek – Ortega Serie D Maduro Lancero

Sneak Peek – Ortega Serie D Maduro Lancero

First I want to give it up to my brothers running the show at DC Cigar Tweetup. I’m a big supporter of giving back to the community. It is my belief that our primary purpose in this world is to help each other. And if we can’t help, at least not hurt. Next week is the 2nd Annual DC Cigar Tweetup. Last year, the guys at DC Cigar Tweetup were amazing enough to choose First Candle as …

Key West “Al Capone” by Rafael Fuente (first impressions)

Key West “Al Capone” by Rafael Fuente (first impressions)

Several weeks ago, I received a little sampler pack of cigars from Island Cigar Factory, a chain of three cigar shops down in Key West, Florida. They carry a line of their own cigars made at their own factory in the Dominican Republic. The most visually-stunning cigar among the samples they sent me was this little robusto-sized salomon-like figurado with a barber pole wrapper. Named after the infamous Chicago mobster, Al Capone, it was quite unique looking. …

My Uzi Weighs A Ton – Bait Fish (first impressions)

My Uzi Weighs A Ton – Bait Fish (first impressions)

Yesterday, the temperatures rose enough and the clouds cleared up enough for me to head outside to enjoy a rare nice day in February. Not knowing how long the decent weather would hold out, I reached into my office humidor for something guaranteed to be a decent quick smoke. Out came the My Uzi Weighs A Ton (MUWAT) Bait Fish, a collaboration between Drew Estate’s Subculture Studios and Joya de Nicaragua (JDN).

Brian reviewed the original MUWAT back

E Cigars by BOTL LLC [Esencia] (first impressions)

E Cigars by BOTL LLC [Esencia] (first impressions)

With limited time again this week, I figured I should look for something interesting to serve as the subject for a first impressions video review. As I was digging through my remaining samples from this summer’s IPCPR, I recalled the glowing praise offered by our own Walt White and also our friend Craig Vanderslice from CigarCraig.com for the new “E” Cigar by BOTL LLC, makers of Esencia Cigars and Palio cutters. Marc Aub provided some background information about the …

La Musa Melete by Emilio Cigars (first impressions)

La Musa Melete by Emilio Cigars (first impressions)

Here I am again, late as usual with my weekly post. It seems like I’m always apologizing… but then again, you guys keep coming back, so I must be doing something right. You’ll probably be glad to see that I’ve actually got a video uploaded this week. I recorded this first impressions clip last Thursday, but a combination of house guests over the weekend and a 16-hour workday yesterday prevented me from posting it until now. And, boy is it …

Dona Flor Puro Mata Fina (first impressions)

Dona Flor Puro Mata Fina (first impressions)

I have to apologize for dropping the ball again last week, loyal Stogie Review readers. I’ve just be overwhelmed with work and everything lately, but alas, here I am back this week with a video that I think you’ll all enjoy, and rest assured that I have a few more in the pipeline for the coming weeks.

A while back, the folks at Dona Flor USA contacted me to see if I’d be interested in checking out a few samples …

1502 Ruby (first impressions)

1502 Ruby (first impressions)

Sorry for dropping the ball last week, guys. I had a lot of stuff come up at work and I just couldn’t find the time to put anything together for my weekly post. This past week was another busy one, but I found a few spare moments to record a quick first impressions video for you all.

This cigar was gifted to me by it’s maker, Enrique S├ínchez, at the 2012 Delaware Cigar Festival last month. 1502 is a …

Tatuaje Proto 2 – Saints & Sinners 2011 (first impressions)

Tatuaje Proto 2 – Saints & Sinners 2011 (first impressions)

Deciding to change things up a little bit this week, I reached into my 2011 Saints & Sinners smoker’s kit and pulled out the Tatuaje Proto 2. According to the exclusive overview published by our friend Jay over at CigarPhoto.net, the Proto 2 is the original unreleased blend of La Casita Criolla. Unlike the final version which sports 100% broadleaf inside & out, the prototype featured the same wrapper but included Nicaraguan tobacco in the binder and …

Esteban Carreras 211 (first impressions)

Esteban Carreras 211 (first impressions)

You call that a storm? No, actually, they called that a “derecho.” Despite hurricane-force winds that arrived without warning on Friday night, I’m still here and kickin’. We lost power for about 16 hours, but actually suffered more damage the previous Friday caused by a lightning-induced surge. The heat wave continues, however (about “three degrees cooler than Hell,” as Walt would say), so I headed out early in the morning to get a smoke in before it …

little boris by Tatuaje Cigars (pre-release)

little boris by Tatuaje Cigars (pre-release)

I know its been a Tatuaje love fest here the past couple days. Let the love continue but first I have to get the “legal” notice out of the way. This sample was given to me by Pete Johnson of Tatuaje Cigars while he was in the area for a Father’s Day event at The Humidour Cigar Shoppe in Cockeysville MD. If you guys remember Snowmageddon 2010 you will recall my review of the Tatuaje Boris in blizzard conditions with …
