IPCPR 2017: Drew Estate – FSG

IPCPR 2017: Drew Estate – FSG

This is the interview I’ve been looking forward to doing ever since I learned Florida Sun Grown tobacco existed on a Cigar Safari trip years ago. You might know Jeff Borysiewicz as the founder of Corona Cigar Company in Orlando, Florida, or for his involvment with CRA. But today we’re talking to Jeff Borysiewicz, the exclusive grower of Florida Sun Grown tobacco and the guy responsible for bringing tobacco farming back to Florida.

The FSG cigar was actually released last …

IPCPR 2017: AJ Fernandez

In this video Justin Holman steps out from behind the camera to talk to Frankie Santos about what’s new with AJ Fernandez for IPCPR 2017. Frankie gets us started with the New World Puro Especial, which joins the existing Maduro and Connecticut blends of the New World line. All tobacco going into this new blend are from AJ’s farms in Esteli. The Puro Especial will be available almost immediately in three sizes: Robusto (5 1/2 x 52), Short Churchill (6 …

IPCPR 2017: Humi-Care

In the back corner of the General Cigar booth was a display of Humi-Care accessories. I’m not familiar with Humi-Care, so I talked the guy at the display into telling us a little about what they brought to the show. He shows us the clever humidification product called Black Ice. It looks like your standard jar-and-beads humidifier, but it splits into four parts to un-intrusively spread humidification throughout your humidor. They also offer a humidor seasoning wipe. Basically, you wipe …

IPCPR 2017: CAO

Up next in the General Cigar IPCPR 2017 tour was CAO, and Rick Rodriguez was our guide through the metaphorical jungle of the latest CAO cigar releases. The latest is the Amazon Anaconda, the final part of the Amazon Trilogy. The first part being the Amazon Basin and the second the Fuma Em Corda, which released shortly before the trade show.

The Amazon Anaconda features tabaccos from each of the previous two cigars, with a Brazilian Bahiano Habano wrapper. Rick …

IPCPR 2017: Toraño

While making the rounds in the General Cigar booth we stopped to have a word with Jack Toraño about the colorful world of Toraño cigars. He shows us the new Yellow and Blue additions to the Vault line. The Blue features and Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a Connecticut Broadleaf Binder and a three country filler that includes Dominican Piloto Cubano. The Yellow is a mostly Honduran blend with a Nicaragan Jalapa Sungrown wrapper. Across the board the Vault blends fall in …

IPCPR 2017: La Gloria Cubana

This we talked to Yuri Guillen about the latest developments with La Gloria Cubana. If he looks familiar to you, you might be remembering him from part two of our General Cigar Factory Tour from earlier this year. Yuri is the production manager for the vast General Cigar factory in the Dominican Republic. At IPCPR he was focused on the new collaboration with Ernest Perez-Carrillo, the Coleccion Reserva.

The Coleccion Reserva features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan …

IPCPR 2017: Cohiba

IPCPR 2017: Cohiba

We always look forward to talking to Sean Williams at IPCPR, this we found him representing Cohiba at the front of the General Cigar booth. Cohiba is a popular brand, and Sean’s a popular guy, and he was busy every time I passed. Clearly General made a good call making him the Cohiba Brand Ambassador. Also, I’m a little biased, Sean’s a local Atlanta guy and we’ve known him forever, well, at least a decade. And that kinda seems like …

IPCPR 2017: Hoyo de Monterrey

This year at IPCPR 2017 Ed Lahmann gives us the scoop on the latest Hoyo De Monterrey news. And the latest word is that collaboration Hoyo de Monterrey started last year with A.J. Fernandez continues this year with the new Hoyo La Amistad Silver. This medium-full cigar is made of all Habano-seed tobacco, with a high priming Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, and filler from AJ’s farms in various parts of Nicaragua. It’s priced agressively at $6.49 to $7.49 plus applicable taxes.…

IPCPR 2017: Partagas

IPCPR 2017: Partagas

Andres Maturen tells us this year at IPCPR 2017 that Partagas is relaunching the 1845 line, which was originally released back in 2012. (The original 1845 was a big hit with Jerry and Charlie back in the day.) He shows the new Clasico, Extra Fuerte and Extra Osucro. The relaunch is more than just a packaging update, the cigars have been reblended to appeal to “a younger generation of consumers”.

The new 1845 Clasico is a medium-bodied smoke that features …

IPCPR 2017: Diesel

IPCPR 2017: Diesel

We talked to Justin Andrews about the Diesel Grind as our 2017 IPCPR tour of the General Cigar booth continues. A lot of our viewers will recognize the name Diesel, as a product that A.J. Fernandez blends, but not one you associate with the General Cigar family of products. That changed this year, as General Cigar has taken over distribution of the popular Diesel Grind.

The Diesel Grind has been around for a while, Walt took a look at this
