Walt’s Week In Smoke

Walt’s Week In Smoke

This week has been a bit of a scramble for content. My plan was to crack open one of my coolers and do another Humidor Diving video, since they seem to be well received. As the week progressed, I had a couple of things pop up and I kept pushing off the recording.

I’m no stranger to last minute recordings. In the past I’ve recorded a video in the evening and managed to upload and write a post for midnight, …

Contest: Win a Black Label Viceroy Torch

Contest: Win a Black Label Viceroy Torch

Last week we gave away a Back Label Table Torch to one lucky Facebook user. This week we are going to be doing something very similar for our Twitter friends. The prize is a Black Label Viceroy Torch, courtesy of Lighters Direct. Entering is simple, all you have to do is click on the little ‘Tweet’ button down below to share this post on Twitter. Once you do that, be sure to follow @StogieReview.

That is it all …

Havana Sunrise (Short Ashes)

Havana Sunrise (Short Ashes)

Five years ago (probably more than that, actually) I was looking around for a cigar called Havana Sunrise. A friend of mine was in love with the cigar and wanted to do a box split. I found them for roughly $60 per box so I placed an order and we broke up the box. Not long after that I ordered another box for myself. The remaining few cigars in that second box were set aside and forgotten about.

I …

Walt’s Favorite Cigars from 2011

Walt’s Favorite Cigars from 2011

It is that time of year again, where Top 10 Lists are in abundance and manufacturers salivate at the opportunity to Re-Tweet, Share, and +1 all of the praise that their cigars receive. I generally enjoy this time of year and am eager to put a list of my own together. This year, however, I am absolutely dreading it.

In years past I would open up the Cigar Review Index and take in all the cigars we’ve reviewed throughout the …

Contest: Win a Black Label Table Torch

Contest: Win a Black Label Table Torch

A few weeks ago our good friend Steven, from Lighters Direct, asked me to review a lighter, the Black Label El Presidente. Along with that lighter, Steven sent along two others for us to give away.

The first of those lighters is a Black Label “Bombay” Table Torch (Model LBLT100). Entering is very simple, all we ask you to do is “Like” Stogie Review on Facebook. You can do so with the widget down below. If you …

Black Label Lighters: El Presidente

Black Label Lighters: El Presidente

A couple of weeks ago I received an email from our good friend Steven over at Lighter Direct. Steven asked if I had any interest in reviewing a new line of lighters that he is having great success with. I was happy to accept and had a brand new Black Label El Presidente lighter in my hands just a few days later.

Steven explained that the Black Label line is made by the same manufacturer that makes lighters for …

Camacho Negro (Humidor Diving)

Camacho Negro (Humidor Diving)

Over the past couple of weeks I have been telling myself that I need to finally get around to reviewing the Santos De Miami that Brad May was kind enough to send me a while back. Earlier this week I set that cigar aside and made plans to smoke it for todays review.

As it turns out, Brian snaked the review from Jerry, who would of in turn snaked it from me. Over the past five years, I don’t think …

Quesada Oktoberfest (Guest Review)

Quesada Oktoberfest (Guest Review)

Tom and Ed Return for another Guest Review

As always, Ed and I have returned to Stogie Review for our guest spot. How long have we been doing this? I’ll have to look into it. Anyway… In this episode we are covering the Quesada Oktoberfest. This is a yearly release that is in celebration of one of the most famous festivals in the world. It is said that this cigar is intended to be paired with your favorite Oktoberfest beer. …

La Gloria Cubana Artesanos Retro Especiale (Short Ashes)

La Gloria Cubana Artesanos Retro Especiale (Short Ashes)

This week has been a bit of a mess. The east coast experienced a bit of a freak snow storm in October and it caused a lot of grief to the tune of two fallen trees, several broken branches, and 24 hours of living by candle light.

I’ve spent practically all of last week dealing with the aftermath and wasn’t able to record a cigar review as I would have liked. This weekend I had plans to shoot a pistol

Oliva Serie V Maduro Especial 2011 (First Impressions)

Oliva Serie V Maduro Especial 2011 (First Impressions)

Last week I received a tweet from @czerbe asking if I was planning on attending a Studio Tobac event in the area. Initially I was on the fence about attending but decided to head out and make an evening out of it. I wound up having a great time and was handed a pre-release sample of the Oliva Serie V Maduro Especial 2011, courtesy of Dave Wagner.

From what I could gather at the event, the newest release …

  • I'm convinced at this point, the 1878 line from @pdrcigars is the 'Best Bang for your Buck' in the PDR portfolio. Some of his more expensive cigars just arent as good as this budget stick.
  • Smoking my first Flores y Rodriguez. The Flores, Id imagine, refers to Abe Flores of Pinar Del Rio.
  • IMO Enclosed Foot = "Sorry Sir, I couldn't be bothered to trip up that tobacco so I just wadded it up for you."
  • Box looks great, although it could have used more dry-time. Has a mild stain smell about it.
  • Got a @StudioTobac Sampler in the mail. Looks good, eager to smoke through them.
  • @LaAuroraCigars 107 Corona and @CAOCigars OSA cutter, together in harmony.
  • Have a bunch of things to wrap. Having a cigar to keep me company.
  • Nomad Cigars and Yuengling - 1
  • Have a busy morning ahead of me. It is such tough work but someone has to do it.
  • It is a little "Partagas Serie D No. 4" looking but I like the idea if small batch cigars from @pdrcigars
  • Nothing says Good Mornin' like an @EPCarrillo Elencos
  • Figures, 9 out of 10 were awesome and my last one has a lousy burn and produces virtually no smoke on the draw.
  • @jcruz @jonathandrew1 Same here and I guess you could call this Stogie Review Studios (North)
  • EP Carrillo New Wave Corona
  • Drew Estate Undercrown and Spyderco Native 4 - 1
  • Nub Connecticut 358 and Coffee - 1
  • Nub Connecticut 358 - 1
  • Sosa Underground - 1
