Herf’n Heads – Featuring the Fuente Anejo Reserva No. 48 – Discussion Breakout – Part 3

As stated in the Herf’n Heads – Featuring the Fuente Anejo Reserva No. 48 writeup, Brian and I got rather chatty and recorded a video of staggering length. In an effort to make the discussion more manageable for our average viewer, we have broken out the discussion into four separate videos. Each video varies in length and focuses on the discussion that happened between us reviewing the Fuente Anejo Reserva No. 48.

This particular breakout includes the following discussion topics:

  • How we maintain humidity in our humidors
  • Brian reveals a genius MacGyver Cigar Hack to recharge Boveda Packs
  • How we travel with cigars
  • How we maintain humidity in our travel humidors
  • Atlanta Cigar Events vs Pennsylvania Cigar Festivals
  • The upcoming Nestor Miranda Day
  • Comparing the large cigar companies like General and Altadis to Anheuser Busch and their Budweiser product

  1. I seem to recall a Boveda exec admitting on another forum (forget which one) that as long as you recharge the packs before they go dry, you can keep them going, at least for a while. It’s when they dry out completely that the constitution of the product changes, and they lose their ability to hold the humidy in equilibrium. Whatever works, though.

Have you guys ever tried the Drymistat tubes in the travel humidors? It would take up a slot, but they say that you can cut them down to an inch and a half in length if need be.

I don’t know if it’s fair to compare the large cigar companies to AB. I think their better products are on the whole, considerably superior to what Bud has to offer. The concept is understandable, though, and I do tend to gravitate toward the smaller producers.

Lots of interesting topics. Great work!

    1. jjo,
When comparing the big cigar companies to Budweiser, it wasn’t meant as an insult. Both companies produce products en mass to appeal to the largest demographic. As a result, you get a product that doesn’t usually stand out or excite.

I’ve had the PG solution based drymistat tubes pop open and leak. One mess was all it took for me to avoid placing them in mt travel humidors (which ultimately get bumped and banged in transit). I stopped using the larger cannisters for home humidors just because of their size.

Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment

      1. Yeah, I absolutely agree with that aspect of your comparison. I didn’t think you meant it to be an insult.
