There are a number of reasons to review the Partagas Ramon y Ramon. To begin with, we haven’t yet. That is generally reason enough. Then there’s the whole regenerated vintage tobacco thing. That’s also interesting. But the real reason I’m lighting up the Ramon y Ramon this week is that I won a box on my trip to the Dominican Republic based on my blending, bunching and rolling skills in the General Cigar factory. And each one tastes like victory.

Well, alright, I got third place in a competition that included about nine other cigar geeks who have also never operated a lieberman machine before. The point is, my cigars were better than Ben’s were. And based on the one I smoked upon returning to the U.S., I need to make the most of that, because they aren’t going to win any other awards. (I’m not going to say they’re awful, but I’m also not going to say they’re good either.) I think I’ll try another in a few decades when I retire, maybe they’ll be ready then.

But back to the Partagas Ramon y Ramon. As I mentioned, the blend features “a special variety of old-word Dominican tobacco” that was regenerated from vintage seeds specifically for this blend. Also, a high priming Cameroon wrapper, and some Nicaraguan Jalapa filler added for fun. It sounds promising. Click the play button on the video below (it runs about 7 minutes) to see if it really does taste like victory.

  1. I’m glad to hear that the allergy shots are working well for you. I would urge anyone suffering from chronic allergies to check with an allergist about it.

I’ve read good things about the Ramon y Ramon. I’ll have to pick some up sometime.

    1. Thanks. The shots are not a perfect cure (at least not so far), but they have considerably improved springtime life.

The Ramon y Ramon is a good cigar to pair with that first cup of coffee. In fact, I think I’ll light one up right now.
