Padron 1926 Serie No. 90 Maduro

This is part 2 of the review of the Padron 1926 Serie No. 90.  This review will focus on the maduro wrapper version of this cigar.  You can review my review of natural wrapper version of his cigar, along with the overview of the cigar here.  The specification of this cigar are the same as the natural except is in a maduro wrapper.

  • Wrapper:  Nicaragua
  • Binder:  Nicaragua
  • Filler:  Nicaragua
  • MSRP:  $19.50 per cigar/10 cigars per box
  • Size:  5 1/2 x 52
  • Purchased at The Cigar Shop in Biloxi, MS

Pre-light and Construction

As with the natural version of his cigar, the cigar is very well made.  The wrapper is a deep, rich chocolate brown color that is very smooth.  I get notes of cedar a cocoa powder in the cold draw.  The draw is a little loose like it was on the natural.

First Half

This cigar has the same cedar note as the backbone for the cigar, but it’s accompanied by a rich cocoa note and dried fruit note that reminds me dates or raisins.  It’s all rounded out with a sweet molasses note as well.  There is a faint black pepper note that is more dominant on the retrohale.

Second Half

The second half has a lot more cedar than the first along with more cocoa powder flavor.  The sweetness has died down, but the dried fruit note is still there.

Overall Impressions

Another great cigar from Padron.  It’s a very flavorful cigar with notes of cedar, cocoa powder, black pepper, dried fruit and molasses.  I still think I like the natural better though which is little more flavorful to me, but I prefer the natural wrapper in the 1926 blend so that make sense.  Either one you choose, you will be rewarded with great flavor and a great smoking experience so I don’t think you can go wrong with either version.

  1. Ben I watched you on Stogie Geeks and heard your comments on the Padron 90. I was able to find the maduro at my local B&M but the natural was sold out. I hope to smoke it today to cap off 2016. Always enjoy your reviews. Happy New Year and great smokes in the coming year!!

  2. Just smoked my first and likely last – mine had been sitting around 62 in the humid which may have been too dry. My smoke was mostly earth pepper and unsweetened chocolate – it lacked a creaminess or much sweetness. The first. It was almost just a full pepper blast.
