Partagas 1845 Launch Event (plus giveaway)

Partagas 1845 cigar boxes

This past Saturday, I made my way over to Leesburg Cigar & Pipe in Leesburg, Virginia for the Partagas 1845 launch event. The latest offering from General Cigar, the Partagas 1845 is a whole new blend featuring a Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, a unique & proprietary Connecticut Habano binder, and a filler comprised of Dominican & Nicaraguan tobaccos. It’s designed to fill that medium-bodied spot in between the classic, Cameroon-wrapped Partagas and the fuller-bodied Partagas Black.

Dan Greenwald, the local rep for General Cigar, was kind enough to take a few minutes and speak with me on camera. We discussed the new Partagas 1845 cigar, its interesting new packaging, and other new developments at General, including the CAO “Last Stick Standing” promotion.

Check out the video interview, and be sure to continue reading for an extra bonus…

Being the great guy that he is, after the interview Dan gifted me with a nice piece of General Cigar swag to give away to one lucky Stogie Review fan. It’s a medium-sized leather portfolio with the Partagas 1845 logo embossed on the outside, and featuring a magnetic closure and slots on the inside for carrying cigars. I can see using this for cigar tasting notes, or for daydreaming about cigars at work during those endless, boring meetings.

Entering is simple — all you need to do is leave a comment below with the name of your favorite cigar offered by General Cigar. I’ll pick one entry at random on May 1, 2012. Residents of the United States and Canada only, please. Good luck!

  1. Very, very excited about this new blend. Have already order some sticks. Love General Cigar. Favorite is Partagas Black. Cohiba Puro Dominicana also terrific.

  2. I love to smoke Partagas Black. This new Partagas 1848 Cigar is harder to get at the B&M in Texas. The B&M shops are listed on the General Cigars website that they did not have Partagas 1845 in the shop. YEAH FOR Partagas 1845……….

  3. Benji Menendez Majestuo Corona. Oh, how I adore that cigar. I would put it up against just about any other boutique blend out there.

  4. Well I gotta go with Vega Fina Sumum ….. hahaha Actually for years it was the Partagas Black its the stick that started me on Cigars I actually have one with me today that I might smoke, but now hands down its the La Traviata Great stick, great price, I just hope the blend doesn’t change

  5. Partagas Black!!!

Smoked the 1845 6×60 this weekend and it was smooth medium with a perfect long burn.
The aroma was great and it tasted like cocoa and roasted nuts. Absolute pleasure.
    I was really surprised.
Its not going to please aficionados who prefer very strong cigars but it was GooLicious.

Picked up at local B&M for $7.50!!! (Smithfield RI Smoke Shop Thank You James/ Tobacconist)
Cigar Prices going up? That’s fine, I will keep smoking these!

Prediction, massive cigar price reduction at end of summer.

  6. Thanks for using my music, Charlie! Great interview, as usual.

I smoked one of these the other day, and enjoyed it, but my palate wasn’t at it’s best by that point. I have another, and I’m looking forward to it!

Favorite General cigar? Probably the CAO La Traviata natural. The La Gloria Cubana retro especial ain’t bad either.

  7. I cant get enough of the Partagas 1845….right now I think it is the best cigar that General has made…

  8. Partagas #4 was my first cigar many, many years ago… Favorite from General is probably a good ol’ La Gloria Cubana Serie R.

  9. I will go with either the Hoyo de Monterrey Rothchild Double Maduro or that instant conversation starter the Punch Champion.

  10. I’m a fan of the CAO Brazilia and Italia, but the La Gloria Cubana Serie R Maduro is also nice. Thanks for the contest

  11. Call me crazy, but have always like punch’s uppercut, ahhhh the ometepe wonder, from the get-go…..cool contest

  12. Haven’t tried too much from the General Cigar line up but I do love both the Hoyo de Monterrey and the classic Cohiba Red Dot.

  13. Currently, my favorite GCC cigar is the CAO OSA Sol, followed closely by the CAO Brazilia, the CAO Italia, and the La Gloria Cubana Serie N.

  14. I’m relatively new to cigars and haven’t had the pleasure of smoking any of the General Cigar brands yet . . . but I’ve really been wanting to try a Hoyo de Monterrey Dark Sumatra. Does that count? 🙂

  15. Well the contest has been over for sometime, but just wanted to comment that my girl went and bought me her first cigar today and it is the new 1845. She was excited to buy, and I was excited to know I will have the pleasure of smoking it. Prior to this I would have to say the La Traviata

  16. My favorite GCC cigar is the Cohiba XV (Robusto) Plenty of power for me and a flavor that is nonpareil !!!
