Cigar.com House Blends Wrap-Up

Cigar.com Contest - main.jpg

After 8 weeks of smoking the Cigar.com House Blends, everyone knows which was my favorite but I will include the links for all the reviews below and choose my favorite below.

Cigar.com Red Label

Giving this Cigar.com Red Label the once over and it has a surprisingly nice wrapper with few veins and bumps in it but nothing out of the ordinary for a cigar in this range.

Scent from the wrapper gives a sweeter chocolate scent and the foot just produces mainly a tobacco smell.

Cigar.com Cuban Label

Giving this Cigar.com Cuban Label the once over and the wrapper is very neat looking by having different shades going through the roll lines, which you can see in the video hopefully.

Scent on this cigar is just a tobacco smell and the cold draw is a musty tobacco

Cigar.com Brazilian Label

Giving this Cigar.com Brazilian Label the once over and the wrapper has a nice sugary scent along with a chocolate and coffee aroma while the foot is giving off a bit of bitterness along with the rest.

Cold draw is very bitter and lingers on the tongue a while after.

Cigar.com Corojo Label

Giving this Cigar.com Corojo Label the once over and the wrapper feels a little dry and rough. I am getting more aroma off this wrapper than any of the previous ones in this series, mostly a barnyard scent.

Cold draw gives a bit of spice but not much.

Cigar.com Blue Label

Wrapper on this Cigar.com Blue Label is very nice. It has a silky texture to it which actually surprised me a bit.

Scent from the foot and wrapper are all just plain tobacco and it is a very mild scent.

Cigar.com Sun Grown Label

Checking out the wrapper on this Cigar.com Sun Grown and it is not the prettiest thing around but for a stick under $2, do you really look for aesthetics?

Sniffing on the wrapper and I get a slight barnyard scent but nothing on the foot other than a normal tobacco smell.

Cold draw gives me a bit of spice and tobacco.

Cigar.com Purple Label

We have a nice looking stick today in this Cigar.com Purple Label. Very silky smooth connecticut wrapper but the wrapper nor the foot give off much of a scent other than a mild natural tobacco.

Clipped the cap, and got a nice open draw with a hint of wood flavoring.

Cigar.com Cameroon Label

Checking out the Cigar.com Cameroon Label and the cigar feels a little hard but not too awful bad. On the other ones the cigar felt a little soft so we will see if this effects anything. Scent coming from the wrapper is a slight sweetness and tobacco and the foot really is not giving anything off of it other than maybe a tobacco scent.

Clipped the cap and was met with a draw that was tighter than the other ones I have smoked so far but hopefully it will not be problematic.

Of course, the Purple Label is my number one cigar of the bunch. Surprisingly I think the Red Label is a close number 2. I really enjoyed the flavors from that maduro, except the one I smoked on camera, of course.

Now, you can have the chance to try each of these for free! Just let a comment below and indicate which you think you may enjoy the most (none is acceptable also). I only ask that the winner would come back and post a comment letting everyone know which one he or she enjoyed the most after smoking them all.

Let the contest commence. I will run this contest for a week and will draw a winner on Monday April 25th by using a random number generator. I will contact the winner by email, so make sure you use a valid one.

  1. Great review series Mike, I would go with the Blue and Red Labels too, but I also like a cigar with some spice. Regarding other series I’ll say that the CI Legends series reviews could be completed, the Arganese Connecticut (I think you might like this one), Nicaraguan and Maduro, and the Gurkha Micro Batch “series” might be interesting to review. Anyway thanks again for the reviews and keep on smoking.

  2. Mike, it was a great run with 8 reviews in a row! I would probably prefer the Brazilian Lable most, closely followed by the Corojo Lable. I’m just wondering: which reviewed series impressed you the most, JR, Cigar.com, Gurkha Empire or any other?

  3. Good work! I like the series review concept. I guess I would have to go with the Red, although the Brazilian kind of intrigues me, even with the bitterness, and the Purple could sneak in as a morning smoke. I also agree with JaimeVR on the Arganese lines – I like them all, and you can’t beat the CI price. The La Vieja Habanas, Famous Nicaraguan Selection series, or La Perla Habanas would also be great.
Whatever you choose to do next, I’m sure it’ll be entertaining. And maybe we can all chip in and get you a shotgun to take care of that clock! 🙂

  4. I would most look forward to smoking the Corojo, as I’m a bit of a sucker for that wrapper. Unless the maduro has a very pleasant sweetness to it, the wrapper doesn’t excite me as it once did.

Oh, well. Working at a tobacconist’s certainly does have its perks…

  5. I think I would like to try the Blue Label first. The nutty flavor you detect, and the salt/pepper spice, along with the great burn make this stick appealing to me.

Excellent job on the reviews. Looking forward to your next series.

  6. So many cigars, so little time. I’ve often wondered about the house brands and am reluctant to order up a bunch to give them a try. I buy the house brand and give them a try when I visit B&Ms and have had some good ones as well as some stinkers! Thanks to SR I can gain a bit of insight into the etailers contributions. I have varied tastes but I’d probably go for the Sun Grown first. Then maybe one of the Maduros. Big Smoke to all my fellow herfers! See you at CF later this month.

  7. Mike, I appreciate the time and effort you put into reviewing this entire line. That being said, I’m glad it’s over because I don’t care for the robusto size and generally I’m wary of house blends.

Looking forward to what you’ll come up with next!

  8. Based on the reviews, I’m thinking either Red or Brazilian. Or maybe Purple with my morning coffee…

  9. I think I would enjoy either the cameroon label or the purple. Cameroon because I am always on the hunt for a good cheap Cameroon stick that is good for when I am not in the mood to pay too much attention to complexity. Purple because it sounded pretty good from the review.

  10. Hey Mike, I really enjoyed the whole series on the cigar.com cigars. I think if it was me, I’d really enjoy the Maduro, with the cuban blend coming in a close second. Can’t wait to see your next series!

  11. I have yet to try any of those. I might just have to pick up some based on your reviews. Red Label would be my first choice.

  12. I would say so far its the sun grown (since I took a flyer and bought a box of the Torpedos) with a second going to the brazilian label so far of the eight I got at the same time has the box order. All in all they okay smoke for the price.

  13. I’d like to try the Cameroon Label based on all of your reviews.
The Purple Label would be nice, but I smoke a milder cigar more rarely, so the Cameroon Label would be my first choice to try.

  14. I’ve only had the White and the Green labels, and I did enjoy the White. So either that one or the Red label I’d say.

  15. I have tried and liked the sungrown and corojo labels…hoping to try more after your nice review! Thanks.

  16. I’d probably enjoy the red label the most. However I’ve noticed you and I tend to like the same cigars so I may just end up liking the purple label more!

However back to enjoying my Partagas black label (I’ve been smoking these non stop this month, dunno how I had never smoked them before)

  17. Thanks for the great series. I have always been interested in try this cigars, but was not sure of what I would get. I was, although looking at the Brazilian. Now I feel mor confident, and will start out with your recommendations first.

  18. Personally I’m thinking the Brazilian would be my prefered, I seem to gravitate to sticks that have a bite and are on the sharper side. I believe this is brought about by abusing my taste buds my entire life.

  19. Based on your recommendation, I would like to try either the Red or the Purple. Great set of reviews. What’s next, Mike?

  20. Mike, Good job. Your reviews are really starting to grow on me. I even look forward to your getting mad at the chiming clock…It’s kind of become your trademark. I give my vote for the Red. I am leaning towards more full-bodied smokes lately. Keep up the good work.

    Chris

  21. I thhink I would definitely enjoy the purple or red labels. The blue label seems too mild and not as flavorful as the others. I also think it’s tough to make quality value sticks using sun-grown and cameroon wrappers, so I tend to stick to value connecticuts and maduros.

  22. I have never had the purple or the red label, but I have had the Sun Grown and the Brazillian label. I enjoyed the sungrown more, but in the corona size. I would like to try more of these in Robusto

  23. I don’t know Mike. It would be nice to find an affordable house blend that would have an adequate flavor profile but they are usually a big disappointment. I would give the Brazilian or the Red Label a try. Buying a box to see if it is worthwhile is not a chance I’m willing to take. Unless I’m missing something, I don’t think they sell a sampler pack on their site. Thanks for your reviews!!

      1. No problem, John. Some of these sites could do their customers – and themselves – a favor and make navigation a lot easier.

  24. Great idea doing reviews on an entire series. I doubt that I’d buy any; I might smoke one if gifted to me. If I had to purchase one, it would definitely be the Red Label.

  25. I havent tried these yet but I think I would like the brazillian or the red. I loved the series review. Keep up the good work.

  26. It could be a toss up between the sun grown and purple label. I look forward to sampling some of these house blends.

  27. I think I’d like the brazilian label best overall, especially if it is anything like the CAO brazilia!!! and of course, thanks for the review!!!!

  28. Great series. Based on your reviews I could see myself liking the sun grown, corojo, and red label. If your looking for another series, might I suggest the Cigars Interational Legends Series.

  29. Cameroon and/ or all of them. Great job on reviewing the cheaper stuff Mike it’s hard to find good everyday cigars and your effort has made it that much easier for everyone.

  30. I’d say the Red or Brazilian would be my favorites in this series based on their descriptions.
Mike, you’re the KING of finding good inexpensive smokes! Thanks!!

  31. Someone had gifted me 2 Sungrown awhile back. I smoked one within a week – I usually like sungrown, but this one was not worthy of any praise. The other I still have in my humidor hoping it will get better, probably not, but who knows….

  32. I think I would like either the Red Label or the Brazilian. Both sound like the flavor profiles I would enjoy,. That said, your love for the Purple Label would have me try one of those too.

  33. Great idea for a contest. I can’t wait to tell you and your loyal followers which one I preferred!

  34. I saw all of the eight reviews that you did. It’s seem painful for you to smoke in some of your review dislike cigar. I would like to try the Cuban and Sun grown cigars.

  35. And yet ANOTHER contest I’m a day late for…. I haven’t watched the other reviews, but will do so now. I did try one sampler pack months ago, but neglected to take notes. Recall liking the Blue more than I thought I would.

    Maybe next time.

  36. Just smoked the Cuban label late last night. Overall it wasn’t bad, a medium bodied cigar with a woody-sweet profile. My only complaint is that they are partially short filler and burn fairly quickly.

  37. The Cuban Label is one of my regular smokes, such a great cigar for the cost. I routinely get a box of them. Excellent chaser stick too.

The Brazillian label is also another fav. from this line.
