Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 - 50 Year - 1

A few weeks ago I was hanging out at Kensington Tobacconist when the latest shipment from CAO Cigars arrived. Within that shipment of mostly CAO La Traviata’s were a couple of boxes of the Carlos Torano 1959 Exodus 50 Year cigars. At the time I didn’t think much of them as my interest in Torano product wasn’t nearly as high as it was in the past.

During my visit this past Friday, I was pacing the humidor when I came across those boxes again. On a whim I picked up a pair of them and made my way to the register. That evening I decided to light up a cigar and those two sticks were staring up at me from the ziplock bag.

I pulled one out and was just about ready to light it when I decided to try a little recording in my almost-complete office. The end result is the video that I have for you below. Without spoiling the video, I must say that this stick has renewed my interest in the Torano line and I look forward to smoking a few more of these Carlos Torano 50 Year cigars in the future.

  1. Hi Walt,

Nice job, we have these over here in the UK and they actually call them a ‘Short Churchill’.

A walk in humidor?!? Ok…now I am jealous. Next you will be telling me you have a couple of boxes of Behikes to go in there?

    Cheers.

    1. Couple of boxes of Behikes, now thats funny LOL. Because of the layout of the portion of the basement that I’m renovating, it was either make a small storage closet or a small walk-in humidor. I couldn’t afford to go all out and line it with Spanish Cedar, so when I move the next home owners will see it as a small walk-in closet.

Thanks for the info on the Short Churchill. If the Torano site hadn’t listed it that way I would have guessed it was another size completely.

      Thanks for the comment.

  2. Good review Walt. I had two of these at a Torano event and really liked them. Just the right amount of power (for me) and the construction on the two I had were flawless. I still like the Virtuoso and smoke them regularly. Met Charlie Torano at the event and he was a really cool guy.

I will be smoking more of them.

  3. Yeah I have two fart fans in my smoking room as well. They are loud and don’t really have the “sucking” power that I would have liked (I sometimes have about 4 or 5 people smoking cigars in there). It does help with clearing the room pretty fast afterward though, but we’ve had quite a few eye burning nights. 🙂 Good job on the review, my buddies favorite cigar from carlos torano is the exodus 1959. I like the virtuoso myself. Have fun with the humidor.

  4. Nice review Walt. I had a few of these from last year’s IPCPR and they weren’t my thing. Maybe bad samples but I still haven’t had the urge to revisit.

Favorite Torano is the Signature Series in the perfecto size…mmmm

  5. Walk-in humidor. Very cool.

I’m used to a churchill being 7×47 or 48 (a bit narrower than a robusto). I’m only familiar with “Short Churchill” referring to the R&J Short Churchill, which is really a traditional robusto (4 7/8 x 50).

I completely understand your comment about “moist earth and stale chocolate”, if I got the quote right. Reminds me of recommending Lagavulin to non-scotch drinkers: it tastes like smoked earth and tar … yeah, sounds yummy. (It actually is.)

I like Toranos normally, so I’ll definitely be giving the Ex59 – 50 yr a try if the opportunity arises.

    Cheers

  6. Nice review Walt! I have seen theses at my local cigar shop, but have been hesitant to pick them up. I think I might give them a try now.

    Thanks

  7. I used to enjoy all sticks that Torano put out but lately I have not been too impressed. I think I will have to try a couple of these to see if I change my mind.

    1. I picked up that hat while attending a Nub event. The event I went to was a year or two ago, I’m not sure if they are available anymore.

      Thanks for the comment
