Thanks for all the comment love guys, and an even bigger thanks to cigarfan for the skinny on this unusual cigar! It makes me laugh to know that someone had the cajones to both counterfeit the cigar, and then try to sell them at RTDA right under the manufacturers nose!

ace, brilliant observation as always. I suspect very much that the shape of this vitola was meant to convey the idea of cupid's arrow. It's a curiosity that they chose that shape only for this vitola, making others in more traditional shapes.

My understanding, for what it's worth, is that Kiki Berger has always made this cigar -- during the boom he made it for a couple of other gentlemen, but it's always been his blend. (The story is that these guys "found" some tobacco in Esteli at the height of the cigar boom and got Kiki to manufacture the cigars for their new brand. A familiar story.) The brand itself was successful during the boom -- succesful enough that some idiots actually tried to sell fakes of it at the RTDA until the legitimate brand owners ripped them a new one -- but then Cupido ceased production around 2002. I'm not sure why. At some point Kiki started manufacturing La Carolina using the original Cupido blend, but he didn't have the rights to the Cupido brand name until later. When he acquired the rights, he developed a new blend for it.

I haven't tried the "new" Cupido, though I always liked the old ones (and La Carolina.) Now my curiosity is piqued. Thanks for the review!

I like the Cuban Crafter lines, but their cigars have a tendency to be wet hence the bad burns.
