Jose La Piedra

As much as I love you guys, I’d rather still be on vacation in Cancun. LOL j/k

Its good to be back. Had lots of fun and sun in Cancun but its back to the grind. My review this week is of the Jose La Piedra also known as Jose L. Piedra or more simply, JLP. The JLP is a machine made cuban that is both economical as well as easy, well defined flavors. They aren’t much to look at but the flavors and how easy they are on your wallet make it so that you can overlook their appearance.

Props to my boy @dcamacho for watching the Pacquiao/De La Hoya fight with me!

  1. LOL! Nice to have you back Jerry. I think we all would rather be on vacation than working.

Nice review…with these being machine made do they still need to stored like handmade?

  2. Jerry, I heard the old Jose L. Piedras were machin-made ( the ones with the brown bands) and the new white bands are Handmades. I’m not 100% sure….I’ll check the Habanos webpage.

  3. The last JLP I tried to smoke had a GIANT gray hair sticking out the foot. I’m sure it was a hair and not bailing string, glad you had better luck. If you like those you can also find the Flor de Canos Selectos on sale for a few bucks more and they are better smokes imho.

  4. Hey there great torpedo! I see u r really diggin them Cubans lately. Me too my fav. is the Bolivar Royal Corona robusto, awesome roasted coffee bean and cocoa flavors and reasonably priced. Another one I enjoy is the Rafael Gonzales corona extra. This is more of a medium bodied Havana. Starts out mild with some nutty flavors and when u get to the halfway point, the cigar really starts to explode with those characteristic Cuban tobacco flavors. What the experts say is true, Cuban tobacco has a distinctive taste and aroma that is all its own and no other tobacco has the same taste. Thanks to internet technology, we can have Havanas shipped right to our mailboxes from European countries discreetly. What a country!

  5. Hey man! Thanks for the review! I am glad to hear your had a nice vacation 😉
These seem like something that would be great to hand out to non-smoker friends who want to enjoy a cigar with me.
Do these need to be stored in a humidor?
    Thanks Jerry!…

as always great job on the review. someones on a cuban rush lol

  7. What, no jumping when you ashed on yourself!!! Jerry, your not getting used to that are you? Great review and glad your back but I’m sure your still wishing to be on vacation. Heck, I’m wanting to be on vacation. But how could I afford the smokes? hmmm.

  8. Great review Jerry! Informative, fun, and friendly!!! Love the Cuban reviews, it’s nice to hear about many different smokes from all regions.
    Also liked the boxing talk.

  9. The JLP petit Cazadore is actually produced totalmente a mano tripa corta… meaning these are totally hand made with short and medium fillers. They are hand bunched using a rubber bunching aid in order to make it easier to bunch the short filler.

Jerry, you had to let the cat out of the bag on my favorite value cigar eh ? LOL … These are my go-to short smokes and can be had for $27 US for 25 cigars… in my opinion, the only better cigar value is the Padron Londres.

Glad to hear you had a great time in Cancun!

  10. Just got an email from Habanos and he said JOSE L PIEDRASs are “totalmente a mano, tripa corta” which means they are totally handmade with short filler.

That clears things up and I sure am glad I can read some spanish. Anyways, I loved the Review, these are a great bargain cigar with excellent cuban tobacco taste (only the Cremas for me though).

Thank Jerry and we are all looking forward to the next cuban cigar review, so smoke some more! haha

  11. Thanks to Jabba for clearing up the JLPs. Don’t know why I thought they were machine bunched…brain cramp. There’s actually a lot of misinformation on the web about them and on some sites you’ll see them listed as “machine made”. Maybe that’s what I was thinking about when I mentioned machine bunched above.

  12. @ Jabba – I just read your post haha, I’m glad I could back up your info man. If you get back to this..could you shoot me an email at ptm94593@yahoo.com.

@Zee – Yea there are a lot of misinformation, but thats probably because JLPs used to be machine made early in production.
