Up for review this week is the Perdomo Reserve Champagne. This cigar weighs in at 4.75 inches in length with a 56 ring gauge. The wrapper is a Connecticut Shade with a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers. Stuck to the orange tinted cellophane wrapper is a “Best of the Best 2005” sticker from the Robb Report.

A few weeks ago I received a very nice email from Frank Santos, Marketing Director for Puros Indios Cigars. Congrats to Jerry and his wife Michelle. On Sunday at 9:42 am Jeremiah Cruz Jr (JJ) was welcomed into this world. He weighed in at 7lbs and 19 3/4 inches long. Mom and baby are doing quite well after 21 hours in labor.
Up for review this week is the Top Shelf Signature Select – Blue Label. This particular cigar is the House Blend created for Jim Cronin, owner of Top Shelf Cigars. The cigar is hand rolled in Honduras by the Tropical Tobacco Company and is comprised of Corojo 99’ Wrapper, Corojo 99’ Binder, and 98’ Criollo Filler, all of which come from the Jalapa Valley. The stick weighs in at 6.00 inches long with a 52 ring gauge.

The Senate Finance Committee has scheduled a markup on Tuesday, July 17 on legislation dealing with the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The measure is expected to be reported out of committee. Funding would be almost totally via higher taxes on tobacco products. Today I review the double maduro cigar from Saint Luis Rey. This beautiful cigar is their No. 6, which measure 6 x 60. The wrapper and binder are both the Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro and the filler is nicaraguan. The term double maduro comes from the wrapper and binder being a maduro tobacco.
