Rocky Patel 15th Anniversary
July 12, 2010
Check out Brian's review of the Gran Habano Azteca for details on how to win Cigars and Swag.
Named after the famous pipe maker, Eric Nording (I don’t smoke pipes but thats what I hear), I bring you the robusto sized Nording by Rocky Patel. The Nording by Rocky Patel features a Costa Rican wrapper, Mexican binder and a filler blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobacco. Now I’ve also seen other places that say it has a Honduran binder and a Honduran wrapper so I’m not sure who to trust.
I’m always fascinated with how a cigar…
This weeks Wednesday review is of the Oliva Serie O Perfecto (5×55). According to the Oliva web page the Serie O is a Nicaraguan puro made in the Cuban style of growing the same seed in different regions. The sun-grown Habano wrapper was very silky with only a few small veins.
The pre-light draw was easy for a perfecto, which I find often start tight, and the pointed head makes clipping a no-brainer. The small foot lit…
To continue with the trend of reviewing user requested cigars, this week I have the Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur 1066 – Dark Knight. This particular vitola weighs in at 5.75 inches with a 54 ring gauge. The Dark Knights all have a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper, instead of the Cameroon that their counterparts have.
While looking over the cigar I found it to have a dark oily wrapper with a few veins running throughout the length of the stick.…

This week we have the La Gloria Cubana Serie R #4 (4-7/8 x 52) with a Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrapper. I was gifted this cigar back around Christmas so, while I have no idea how long it sat in the B&M, it had been in my humidor for almost 3 months. This was one dark, oily, toothy wrapper and really had my mouth watering pre-light. There wasn’t much aroma pre-light, just a nice tobacco flavor.
I’m back! Thanks for everyone wondering where I was the past week. Had some family business going on so I was away from the site for most of last week. Thanks to Walt & Brian for holding down the fort while I took some personal time.
I bring you the Lonsdale sized (6.5″ x 44) Don Tomas Dominican Selection with its Dominican wrapper, Mexican binder and interesting four country filler from the Dominican, Nicaragua, Mexico and Brazil. This is…
Welcome back for another Monday cigar review. This week I decided to fire up a TNT Cigars Alternative to the Padron Anniversary. This is a cigar that I received a request for, fortunately I just so happened to have a bundle of Toro sized Maduros resting in my humidor.
This particular stick is square pressed with a 50 ring gauge and has a length of 6 inches. The wrapper has a rugged and rough look to it but is…

This week I have the Camacho Liberty 2006 Edition. These cigars are limited to 40,000 cigars total and sell for about $14.00 each. This was a cigar that I had on my wish list for some time. Thanks to Stephen, I can now smile and cross it off the list. Thanks again Stephen!
This week we have the La Aurora Maduro robusto at 5×50. The La Aurora Maduro is advertised as a more refined, medium to full-bodied smoke than the Cameroon-wrapped La Aurora comprised of Dominican long filler and a Brazilian-grown broadleaf maduro wrapper. I’m not generally a big Cameroon fan so I’ve never tried it and can’t compare to the La Aurora Maduro. However, big fans of the LAM might want to stop reading now as I wasn’t terribly impressed by…
