For Independance day I thought it would be best to keep the post here on Stogie Review short and sweet. After all, I don’t want to keep you away from your Family, Cigars, Beer, and BBQ too long.
In place of my video review this week, I have an interview with Jose Ortega of Reyes Family Cigars to share with you. The video was recorded by our good friend Tom Adcock while at a Reyes Family Cigars event at Ed Nazare’s shop, St Pete Pipe and Cigar.

Enjoy the video and please
have a safe and happy Independence Day

What really surprised me is how quickly I was able to get my hands on the Tempus. It could be that I heard about them late, but within a couple days of being told there was a new Alec Bradley cigar out there, I found them at a local shop. (Some people I’ve spoken to still can’t find these in their area!) But wouldn’t you know it, after such a lucky find, I promptly lost them in the aromatic mess I call a humidor. (They were unearthed this weekend in a small cigar avalanche.)
In case you don’t already know, Tempus is latin for “time” and I believe Novo Terra means either “new land”, or “new earth”. Something new, anyways. According to the Alec Bradley website, Alan Rubin discovered a small farm on the border between Nicaragua and Honduras back in 2001 that produced a great tobacco, but in small quantities. After years of investment of time and resources, the tobacco was ready for production.
The word I’ve heard so far on the Tempus has all been positive. People have been calling it “Alec Bradley’s new hit.” And of course, Cigar Insider gave the Centuria vitola a 94 rating, which is pretty impressive. And Alec Bradley stands firmly behind this cigar, declaring it their flagship smoke. Can it really be that good? Will it live up to the hype? I plan to find out.

Thanks to everyone for voting last week on this cigar. I first tried the Decade a few months ago and wasn’t all that impressed, in fact, I thought it was pretty offensive to be carrying the Rocky Patel name. I’m glad that my first impression didn’t make me write off the Decade all together and your votes inspired me to try it again.
The 3-4 Decades I smoked leading up to this review were nothing but pleasure to smoke. All the great qualities and flavors that over the years have lured me to Rocky Patel over and over again are all present in the Decade. Not to sound too much like a loser but the Decade is like going on a journey of Rocky Patel cigars. Its a slow starter, nothing but the usual natural tobacco flavors similar to what you get when smoke many of the Indian Tabac stuff. But then you’re met with a lot of familiar flavors that each have their own part of the cigar and transition nicely from one to the next. From the RP lines of the Olde World Reserve, Sun Grown, Vintage and I’m sure there is a bit of The Edge in there as well all can be found when smoking the Decade by Rocky Patel.

This weekend I’m bringing you something a little different. It is a review, but not of a cigar. Instead it’s a review of a movie about cigars. And probably one you haven’t come across before. (Unless you spent a lot of time at film festivals in the past year or so.) It’s called Los Tabaqueros: A Handmade Documentary. In case you don’t already know “Tabaqueros” is another term for a cigar roller. (I hear the term “Torcedor” more often, myself.)

Over the past two months or so I have found myself increasingly interested in cigar and drink pairings. It all started after listening to an episode of Dog Watch Cigar Radio when Bob talked about this excellent small batch coffee known as Black Dog. I ordered up a couple of bags and began my journey of pairing coffee and cigars.
Several weeks later, came my interest for pairing alcoholic beverages with cigars. Once again by listening to Dog Watch, Dale got me thinking about how I might dip my toes into the world of cigars and single malt scotch.

I just wanted to put together something short and sweet on the happenings of Stogie Review.
YQMA
We got side tracked on the show due to a hectic schedule all three of us sort of fell into with our personal lives. Jerry had a trip to Boston, I had a wedding to attend out of town, and Brian has been swamped with work. After the initial delay we were not able to lock in a date to record the next show.
I’m happy to say that we are set to record the next episode on Tuesday July 1st. I’d like to have the video posted on Sunday July 6th but think it may wind up being available on Sunday July 13th.
We apologize for the delay and look forward to getting back in the groove of recording on a regular basis.
