Ashton San Cristobal Clasico (Saturday Supplemental)

A while back, one of our readers was really after me to do a video review. He seemed particularly disappointed that I chose to review the San Cristobal Guajiro in text and pictures only. So I promised him that once I finally got around to doing a video review, the very first one would be of the San Cristobal by Ashton. Of course, the problem with a promise like that, is I will keep it, and being the very first video, you know you’re in for all the standard noobie mistakes and technical glitches. (Speaking of noobie mistakes, sorry in advance for the lack of bumper music!)

So what’s the deal, you’re probably wondering. (If you’re not wonder, start, otherwise this paragraph is do nothing for you.) Will Brian now be doing video reviews every Wednesday like the rest of the crew. In the short term, no. You can expect my standard, cleverly written reviews. But wait! Before your eyes start welling with tears and your lip begins to tremble, this post is the start of something beautiful. I plan to do more video reviews on Saturdays. The idea is that I’ll take a cigar I’ve reviewed in the past and see if I still agree with my review. So when you think about it, you’ll actually be getting two reviews a week from me, for the price of one! (Man, we really gotta work on our pricing.)

  1. Yeah Brian! Entering a new realm? Great review.

Olives?….did you by chance do this review after having a mediterranean salad for lunch?

Looking forward to more of your reviews starting with your trademark “deer in the headlights” stare.

    Nicely done.

  2. Awesome video! Love it man! I hope you start doing all or as many of these videos as you can. The first time is always the hardest, after another video you will be an old pro.

  3. Wow! Brian you deserve a huge pat on the back for taking the step into videos…your written reviews have always been good but add video to your reviews and you’ve taken a step towards greatness!

  4. just a question, not related to this review, What happened to Brian Tipton? I was confusing the two Brians, maybe because hewitt never did a review and I never saw how he looked.

  5. As long as SR has somebody named “Brian” doing video reviews, I’m happy.

But seriously, this was a great review. Lots of info and even cigar porn.

  6. Hey thanks guys!
I guess Jerry is on to something. If you whine for comment love on twitter (and in your video) you get it! Sweet.

    Paul,
Well, I did have a Muffaletta at a local deli a couple of hours before the review, so that COULD have influenced that a bit. (In case you don’t know what that is, suffice it to say, it’s heavy on the olives. I’d never heard of one before moving to Hotlanta.)

Jeez, I was hoping if I did the deer-in-headlights thing once, I could forever be done with it… Looks like I stepped in it.

    Jerry,
Thanks man. I hope it gets a bit easier, or my Saturdays stay relatively carefree.

    Sin, Dennis,
Yes, I will accept this nomination, and I choose Tom “McLovin” as my veep. Because “creep” and “veep” rhyme! LOL (Just messin’ with ya, McLovin)

    Jabba,
You know, I have no idea what happened with the other Brian. I now consider myself the most important Brian on Stogie Review, ever. Of course, now that I’ve said that Tipton may return from obscurity and give me a good thrashing. We’ll see how that plays out.

Thanks again guys, I think I got just enough comment love to do this again! LOL

  7. You should open or close every episode with Deer-in the- Headlights; I dont know how I missed it the first time but that was hilarious…

  8. Ballface! You publicly mock me!

Should I hold a public poll? Do I really look like this kid (add two decades and take away scissors)?

    😉

  9. This is very cool…I’m glad to see that peer pressure has paid off and you’re doing videos.

If you go back and watch some of Jerry’s earlier work, he always said how “weird” it is to talk to the camera and not get any feedback. You handled it great!

  10. Great review Brian. I loved the deer in the headlights thing. I thought you did a really nice job.

  11. Good thing this is a male dominated sport – dang Brian, I don’t think I’d like to do a video review!

Great job…. btw. San Cristobal got this Lady’s Nod too….
